[h=1]2013 Fantasy Football Rankings
By Matthew Berry | ESPN.com
So today is Jan. 3, 2013. I made these rankings with the idea that I would be drafting for 2013 on this day. Much will change between now and next season, but until we know what, I've ranked as rosters currently stand -- which means Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are still teammates, Greg Jennings is still a Packer, Wes Welker is still a Patriot, Steven Jackson is still with the Rams (and still in the league!), and so on and so forth.
I ranked these guys using ESPN standard scoring, which is to say four points per touchdown pass, one point for every 10 yards rushing and receiving, six points for a rushing or receiving touchdown and zero points per reception.
A 10-team ESPN standard league is only 160 players deep, but I ranked 200, because I want extra credit. (There's no extra credit? This is awkward). This is for multiple-sized leagues, but it follows my draft philosophy, which is to wait until the final two rounds for a defense and kicker. If you decided to use this for a 10-team, 16-round league, you'd move the defenses and kickers up to the 141-160 slots.
A few observations from doing this exercise: Quarterback is crazy deep. Remember how sick you got of me saying that wide receiver was crazy deep going into the 2012 season? You'll get sick of hearing me say quarterback is crazy deep between now and September. Get used to it.
I generally ranked with safety in mind early and with upside when you got into the rounds where you'd be drafting backups. In the sections where there are a lot of the same position in a row (such as five quarterbacks), that's my way of saying I think these guys are all in a tier together and it's really about personal preference. I've put them in the order I would draft them, but it's all very close.
Finally, before you peruse these ranks, always check the "updated on" date to know how up-to-date they are throughout the year. I'll update them as news warrants but not for every single move. Any questions or concerns? Am I too high on someone or not high enough on another? Let me know on Twitter and Facebook.
